October 10, 2002 Huntington Beach
I had the thrill last weekend of being
there to watch the Anaheim Angels knock off the Yankees
in games three and four of the division series. It was spectacular
in so many ways that there is not enough room here to describe
it. But I will say that to watch heart and soul triumph
over money and prestige was exhilarating. These were the
two best games I’ve ever been to in my life—Congratulations,
Angels! In salute of the team that’s making history,
here is a
gallery of some Angels-related history…
Next, congratulations to Diane from
Staten Island for winning the first round of the MYSTERY
PHOTO game. She guessed correctly that the old airplane
hangar pictured was the site where Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid
Bergman’s farewell scene in "Casablanca"
was filmed--so she wins a signed book. (A couple of others
had the right answer, but Diane’s name was the one
chosen.) The new picture is up and you can play the game
here.
Also, here’s
an ad I found recently from 1964. That I work in advertising
and that I did a book on the Coliseum made this particularly
interesting to me. Lastly—I saw this just this morning
and shot it(though it turned out sort of warped)—you
probably heard about the lockout of dockworkers here in
Southern California—though it just ended, look
at what it’s created off the coast of Huntington Beach
(and other beach cities). As if traffic isn’t bad
enough out here…
(Oh, and thanks to the Huntington Beach
Newcomers Club for having me speak/sign books at their luncheon
this week. It was a lot of fun.)
GO ANGELS
